The United States-Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP) is a public-private initiative that promotes environmentally sustainable development in Asia. US-AEP is jointly implemented by several U.S. government agencies, under the leadership of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  They provide Business Services, Grants, Exchanges, Networking Opportunities, Technical Assistance & Training.  

The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) is a non-governmental research organization located in Austria. The institute conducts inter-disciplinary scientific studies on environmental, economic, technological and social issues in the context of human dimensions of global change.

World Resources Institute provides information, ideas, and solutions to global environmental problems.

Worldwatch is a non profit public policy research organization dedicated to informing policymakers and the public about emerging global problems and trends and the complex links between the world economy and its environmental support systems.

USAID: Improving the Urban Population's Access to Adequate Environmental Services

USAID Making Cities Work  This Making Cities Work website is designed to inform USAID staff, counterparts and other partners in their efforts to integrate an urban focus into their work. A number of tools and resources -such as a Partnership Fundphoto library, summaries of demonstration projects, available training activities, and searchable databases - have been provided to meet this objective.

US-AEP’s Urban Program assists Asian cities in transforming their management systems to ensure an improved sustainable urban environment. Key elements in this transformation process include better management techniques, governance, and partnerships with industry and civil society. The Urban Program focuses on four interrelated components: (1) Urban Policy and Management; (2) Business, Citizen and NGO Outreach; (3) Municipal Finance/Privatization; and (4) Water, Wastewater, Air and Waste Management. 

The International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) is the international environmental agency for local governments.  ICLEI's mission is to build and serve a worldwide movement of local governments to achieve tangible improvements in global environmental and sustainable development conditions through cumulative local actions.

The Urban Institute is a nonprofit policy research organization established in Washington, D.C., in 1968. The Institute's goals are to sharpen thinking about society's problems and efforts to solve them, improve government decisions and their implementation, and increase citizens' awareness about important public choices.

The Cities Alliance was created to foster new tools, practical approaches and knowledge sharing to promote local economic development and a direct attack on urban poverty.  Includes a grant program, publications and an urban upgrading database.

Air Pollution in the Megacities of Asia The APMA project focuses on the development of policy to address urban air pollution in Asian Megacities. It aims to increase the capacity of governments and city authorities to deal with urban air pollution issues by developing regional action plans and establishing an urban air pollution network for Asian Megacities.

Global Climate Change

The Climate Compendium seeks to channel, condense, and consolidate the latest and best information on climate change into a living textbook or cyber-briefer that makes maximum use of the Internet. The Compendium Team researches, filters and organizes climate change information to facilitate easy access by national policy makers, business leaders, negotiators, journalists, educators, NGOs, and all those interested in better understanding the political, economic, scientific, and legal aspects of climate change. The Climate Compendium is divided into five broad sections: International Climate Negotiations; Domestic Policy and Implementation; Business and Technology; Scientific Research and Climate Change Impacts; and Related Conventions and Agreements-to reflect the wide range of topics encompassed in the issue of global climate change, as well as to make the information easier to find, organize and understand.

The EPA Global Warming Site EPA's climate change programs and activities are an integral part of the Agency's mission and purpose. With the Global Warming Site, we strive to present accurate information on the very broad issue of climate change and global warming in a way that is accessible and meaningful to all parts of society – communities, individuals, business, public officials and governments.

Climate Change Briefing Book compiled by the Library of Congress's Congressional Research Service. The Briefing Book includes objective and nonpartisan information and reports on a wide range of Climate Change Issues, including: greenhouse effect and global climate change, greenhouse gas sources and trends, energy issues, economic issues, legal issues, technology, chronology, the U.N. Framework Convention, the 1997 U.N. Kyoto Protocol, and much more. 

SEA-SPAN, the Southeast Asian Science Policy Advisory Network.  This is an evolving network of people from diverse backgrounds who are motivated to improve the links and understanding between policy and scientific communities. The focus is on improving the capabilities of the peoples of Southeast Asia to cope with the challenges of living with global change. SEA-SPAN include electronic discussion lists, news lists and electronic conferences.  SEA-SPAN is one of the activities developed and coordinated by BIOTROP-GCTE Impacts Centre for Southeast Asia (IC-SEA)

The Tiempo Climate Cyberlibrary is an electronic information service covering global warming, climate change, sea-level rise and related issues. The Cyberlibrary provides access to authoritative news, views, briefing material, publications, data, analysis tools and educational resources on the subject of climate change, with particular reference to the situation of the developing world. 

Bibliography of peer-reviewed and gray literature on the impacts of climate change on flora and fauna species and supporting ecosystems

Global Change seeks to familiarize the public with the issues associated with climate change and ozone depletion.

The ENSO Signal provides news items, publications, web sites, and articles of interest is intended for those interested in the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) cycle and its impacts on ecosystems and societies.  It is produced by the Environmental and Societal Impacts Group (ESIG) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research which studies environmental change and responses to such change in order to gain insights into how decision makers, from individuals to governments to international coalitions, might better understand and cope with impacts associated with the complex relationship of the atmosphere, environment, and society.

Climate Change and Forestry Mailing List The objective of CLIM-FO-L is to be a forum for sharing current information and experiences about climate change and forestry amongst experts and non-experts. CLIM-FO-L will send periodically to subscribers synopsis of contributions, indicating how to obtain more detailed information on the topic. CLIM-FO-L is a service provided by the FAO Forest Products Division

e-Carbon News is the monthly e-mail newsletter on climate change mitigation, land use, and the associated international politics and processes produced by CRC for Greenhouse Accounting.

USAID: Increasing the Provision of Environmentally Sound Energy Services

The Asia Alternative Energy Program (ASTAE) was established in 1992 to mainstream alternative energy (renewable energy and energy efficiency) in the World Bank's power sector lending operations in Asia.

Forum for Energy and Development (FED), a Danish non-governmental umbrella organization, is a centre for dialogue and cooperation between organizations engaged in energy environment and social development. FED works to encourage the use of sustainable energy in social development around the world.  FED hosted a global conference on renewable energy on islands

International Network for Sustainable Energy:  INFORSE is a world-wide network of 200 NGOs in more than 60 countries. All of these organizations work to promote sustainable energy and social development.  Produces Sustainable Energy News.

UNEP Energy activities, generally focused on the needs of developing and transition economies, involve various facets of the technology research, development, transfer and commercialization process.

Clean Technology and Environmental Management

ASIAN ENVIRONMENT AND BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE WEBSITE - this website (http://www.asianenviro.com) is designed for environmental decision makers, consultants and researchers who need to monitor the environmental issues in the region. The site provides: -current and historical news (through our unique, searchable archive collected through the work of our consultants over the last 5 years, - free briefings and special reports on regulatory and legislative developments and corporate best practice, - and events, links and materials relating to the environmental issue in the region.

US-AEP's Clean Technology and Environmental Management (CTEM) component supports market pressures and private initiatives that promote industrial environmental performance. US-AEP/CTEM works in areas such as ISO 14000 & EMS, Voluntary Business Standards, Greening the Supply Chain, Environmental Due Diligence, and Industrial Extensions for the Environment.

Water

The Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) is an international partnership of the world's leading development agencies concerned with water and sanitation services for the poor. Its mission is to alleviate poverty by helping the poor gain sustained access to improved water and sanitation services. It is managed through a head office in Washington, D.C. and four regional offices in South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific, Africa, and the Andean Region.

The aim of the Global International Waters Assessment (GIWA) is to produce a comprehensive and integrated global assessment of international waters, the ecological status of and the causes of environmental problems in 66 water areas in the world, and focus on the key issues and problems facing the aquatic environment in transboundary waters.

The World Water Forum series has been likened to a series of stepping stones towards the solution of the world's pressing water problems. Each step constitutes a new phase. The 3rd Forum takes up the World Water Vision created at the 2nd Forum in the Hague in 2000, and sets out to see that vision realized in concrete actions.
